Everything we encounter in life produces a sensation and emotion in us, whether it is a person we meet, a music we listen to, a food we eat, a book we read, an image we look at.
A person is the accumulation of his/her beliefs which were learned from past experiences (whether good or bad) and when presented with something similar, the emotion is relived or felt again.
Through music you can transport yourself to a pleasant moment in the past and feel those emotions again. The same with images.
A photographer feels a certain emotion and tries to express it through his/her artwork. But it is the viewer, in my opinion, who will experience an emotion based on his beliefs and past experiences. When presented with a photo it might evoke certain emotions that match hidden memories.
The same photo might have different effects on different people. And totally different photos might produce the same emotion. Art is subjective.
Everyone has their likes and dislikes. A person might prefer looking at pictures of the ocean because it gives him peace and another person will prefer an image of the mountain.
The magical thing about images is that they can produce a broad variety of emotions, depending on the viewer. What do you think?
When you create art how do you express the emotion? How is this process of feeling the emotion, capturing it and communicating it? Do you know who the viewer of your art is, or you create regardless of who it is?
I am curious to know because I am new to photography, and up to this point I was not the photographer, I was the Viewer.
